The Marketer’s Dream Day

I do not plan to blog on Sundays.  However, this Sunday will likely be the one exception. Today is Super Bowl Sunday.  The day that passionate marketers are as interested (or possibly more interested) in the commercials than in the game itself.  

If you are a marketing professional, your career dream would be to create a smash ad for this ultimate marketing showcase (maybe next year I will have to enter the NFL Super Bowl Ad Contest)!  For your attention, this day, advertisers are willing to pay upwards of 3 million dollars for a 30 second spot.  All a little more than most of us marketing in Nova Scotia can relate to! 

Interestingly, as the commercials become more and more creative (and expensive), the companies behind them are realizing the value that the web plays in extending their branding beyond the 30 second commercial.  Hype is now sneaking into the pre and post bowl time-line as many people are going online to the sponsor’s sites in advance of the commercials airing to watch sneak-peaks.  Some companies have even posted the entire commercial on their site in advance of them running on T.V. Tomorrow, there will be many sites taking polls to determine which ad was this year’s big winner.
