Logo Evolution

By David Tonen • February 7th, 2008

In your organization, the visual element that represents you in the most creative way is your logo. There are many famous logos that we have all seen evolve over a company’s life. A recent article by Neatorama has traced the history of some very famous logos. I find it interesting that Neatorama has taken this on given that their logo is horrible, but that is just my opinion. Maybe they will refresh their logo after all this.

As the article reveals, many companies have revisited their logo (the graphical symbol that represents them to the world) to keep it fresh and contemporary. It is important that companies and non-profit organizations in Halifax do the same. If your logo (an key part of your branding) is looking old, tired, and dated…you have a problem. That datedness taints your organization in the same way in the eyes of your customers. The changes in logo evolution can be subtle or they can be complete overhauls with a total re-branding. If you look at Apple for instance, the first re-make of their logo was a major one. Since then it has been tweaked to make it more contemporary.

Consider how your logo represents your organization today and if necessary give it a face-lift. Your business will benefit from it!

It’s funny to think that the Nike logo, the Swoosh, was purchased by Phil Knight from one of his students… for $35. If only she had held out for $.01 per use!
