Is Networking Dead?
I am pleased to say….no!
The Argyle bar in Halifax was the host location of the second Halifax Social Media meet-up this evening. The group has grown some from last month’s inaugural gathering with somewhere just north of 30 people huddled in groups of 3-4 and circulating to build relationships and talk social media.
Ben Boudreau coordinated the logistics that helped create a causal atmosphere of networking over drinks and snacks. There was a short introduction to a new project called The Hub that will be launching in the downtown core sometime in spring 2009. Tracy Boyer and Joanne Macrae shared their vision for the project which will provide a gathering place and mobile office for entrepreneurs and small business that will facilitate “creative collisions”.
Yes, this was a group of people from diverse career-walks, but they all easily connected together through discussions around social media and technology. It was interesting to talk about Twitter, blogging, tech conferences, and streaming video. Everyone was learning from each other but underlying that were the bonds of friendships and connections that were being made through a genuine networking event. It seems a movement has started in Halifax that will serve the community well going forward.
