The Twebinar

By David Tonen • June 19th, 2008

What do you get when you mix a Webinar with Twitter? You get a Twebinar.

Twebinar is a new term coined by David Alston and Chris Brogan to describe

“a mash-up where conversations take place in real time before, during, and after a webinar, on Twitter.”

The first ever Twebinar will take place on Thursday, June 26th, 2008 at 2:00PM Eastern. It is the first in a 3-part series and the topic of this first one is Doing Business with Social Media. You can sign up at Twebinar.com

The concept sounds very interesting to me and I am really looking forward to participating. It is free, so if you are interested in social media this is a great way to to dig deeper. If you are still trying to figure out how social media fits into your organization, this may answer some of those questions. I understand the skepticism around the business application of Twitter. I wrote a post called Twitter 4-Business in May and a follow up one called Twitter Me This a few weeks later. Each week I use Twitter I can see some new application uses for its platform. Integrating it into a webinar is an excellent idea and it should be a great experience. Needless to say, I am quite certain that this is not the last we will hear the term Twebinar…I just have a feeling.

I happened across an ad for this twebinar yesterday when I saw an ad on Facebook. Interestingly, I had not checked into my Facebook account for almost a week. On top of that, it is the first Facebook ad I have ever clicked on. Mainly, it got my attention because I have been reading Chris Brogan’s blog for the past 6 months and I have been following him on Twitter for the past three.

If you can make the time in you day next Thursday to join in the online mash-up of these two complementary technologies, I really think you will benefit, you’ll learn some new cutting edge stuff…and you’ll be a part of social media history by participating in the first Twebinar!
