Sensational Social Media
Social media gets more interesting every day for me. Today was definitely one of those days.
This afternoon, I participated in a Twebinar. It was a webinar on social media hosted by Chris Brogan and put on by the team at Radian6. To make it more “social” they added in the dynamic of having participants conversing via Twitter while the interviews about social media and its trends and impacts were being discussed. It was indeed an interesting experience. The content in the interviews was very compelling and to participate by making comments while points resonated with me was fascinating. However, I personally found it difficult to pay attention to the content, comment on it, and read other’s tweeted observations all at the same time. I was not the only one, as others commented on the ADD nature of juggling all three of those balls at the same time. The Twitter feed side of it was more helpful to sift through after the Twebinar (though admittedly, I am not finished that part yet). All around, the organizers are to be commended for breaking new ground with this inaugural Twebinar. Fortunately, they have plans to re-post the video interviews from today and there are another two Tebinars coming over the summer. The event was well subscribed to. They had a lot of logistics to juggle as there were more registrants than expected resulting in a technology platform shift at the last minute to accommodate the flood of interest. Well done…I look forward to the next one!
Immediately after that social media experience, I hopped over to the third monthly Halifax Social Media Meet-up. I was fortunate enough to attend the first two of these and I feel completely a part of this growing new community. Tonight was another opportunity to build on new relationships with others who have a heart and passion for social media. Tonight, like the other meet-ups, I met a few new folks and got some meaningful insights into their careers and their social media lives. The network continuest to grow. Attendance was in the 30 ish range, but if you add up all who have connected in the past few months we are seeing a group somewhere in the 50+ zone. This is encouraging and I believe that this community networking will continue to blossom through future events and the forthcoming mini-podcamp in October. Thanks to the guys at Intevix for hosting tonight!
