Marketing Harvest

By David Tonen • October 11th, 2008

I write this on the eve of Thanksgiving Sunday here in Canada. I have just spent the day out in the garden harvesting carrots, beans, and lettuce. Most other things in my garden have already been harvested within the last month. A harvest is a great thing and it is enjoyable to eat fresh things that you have grown yourself…the fruits of your hard labour.

Some similar parallels can be drawn with respect to your marketing. If you plant good marketing seeds you will eventually reap a good harvest. You have to plant, water, fertilize, and nurture your marketing. Sometimes, you even have to pull out some organizational weeds that get in the way of representing your organization well. In the end if you work at it, you will enjoy the rewards. Some of that marketing harvest will come in the form of great customer relationships, some in sales, and some in great referrals. You also have all your efforts working together towards that harvest. Some of your marketing is relational, some is through traditional print media, some through your web site, and some through social media tools. It all works together. Seldom does any one thing give you the entire harvest.

This year, as you reflect on the harvest and on Thanksgiving…be thankful for how far your organization has come this past year. Be thankful for the harvest that your marketing has brought in…and begin planning for next year’s harvest. Work with a great marketing company that can help you navigate your marketing to achieve a continued bountiful harvest for your organization!
