Say It
In the past week, I have been juggling several client projects, while being on the road on business for half that time. It always makes for a challenge to keep your administrative house in order when you are not in your home office!
As in any relationship (and I mean any) problems usually rise-up out of poor communication. Most of the relationships that I see having tension usually have a communication issue somewhere in the mix. That is a given principle for personal or professional relationships. The solution…”say” what is happening! Just say it! Tell them early and tell them often! Everyone is better off if you just let them know what is going on. In business terms, is the project on schedule? Has a problem come up that has caused the schedule to slip? Your clients are so much more understanding if you keep communicating with them regularly about the achievements and the delays – maybe even more-so with regard to delays. I have discovered that they also love updates on progress because they can see you are working for them. This is really not a surprise revelation, I know. However, few companies do it. When you do, you stand out above your competitors and your customers love it!
