Dream Catcher

By David Tonen • December 5th, 2008

I have had a great week connecting with my current clients and gaining some new ones.  It has been a productive week for me and most importantly for them.  Yes, I see my dream of Marketing Integrity growing bigger with each week that passes.  That said though, I came across a good article by Harry McLeod over at Men With Pens today called Building Dreams with Your Business.  He hits the nail on the head with that post! Yes, often, as marketers, we can get sucked in to feeling it is about us. Harry says:

“You might even say you’re in business to achieve your dreams. But did you ever stop to think that your business might be helping someone else achieve their dreams?”

“Helping the dreams of others come true is a pretty big responsibility.  Your clients trust you with their project, but they also trust you with something far more precious.  They trust you to handle their vision with care and attention.”

I can’t agree more.  Each time I sat with a client this week, they shared their heart for their business or their ministry.  Their passion for what they do pours though every fabric of their life.  As a marketer, they trust me to do my best on their behalf so they can achieve the goals they have for their business or organization.  It is simply awesome.  I have to take my job seriously.  I have a big responsibility.  I have to do my best to help catch their dream and be a part of the team that helps make it a reality.

Now, that is a good way to go into a weekend…

    Hey, thanks for the link!

Isn’t it amazing how a little tweak to perspective can change your outlook so much? This one hit home for me too.

I’m glad you enjoyed the post.

Thanks Harry! I know be “about our own business” is important too, but I think when we take the perspective of helping others fulfill their dreams, ours come true too! I appreciated your post.

    David,

Today a client called me out of the blue to help with a project they wanted done before Christmas break. It was so rewarding that the client initiated the dialogue rather then me calling to see if there were any opportunities to work on.

Let me add to your post by saying that it’s great to know that you can help your clients realize their dreams, it’s completely awesome when your clients know you can and seek you out.

    Good Hunting,
