Manage Twitter with a Tree?

By David Tonen • December 28th, 2008

It was only a matter of time.  As Twitter has grown in popularity, some wise-guys have been hard at work solving the management of information flow that gets poured through Twitter.  Hence we have seen the beta release of TweetDeck and now another groundbreaking tool called Tweetree.  I am still new to both platforms, but thought I would highlight them for some of you to provide feedback on their pros and cons.  Mitch Joel has written a recent article called Taming the Fire Hose That is Twitter with Tweetree, and Michael Arrington has a post titled Actual Conversations On Twitter Not Possible Until Twitter Lets Us.

What are your thoughts on either of these new tools?

    I have used both.

I still use TweetDeck as my primary Twitter API. It is the most multi-functional and the easiest to keep up to date with the conversations that are going on. I like the search functions, but do not use them a lot.

TweeTree was nice. I missed the Growl updates on my Mac that TweetDeck provides. The tree organization was great, but it is not quite there for me to use consistently. I have to admit that things updates got a little lost as I used it. The tweets seemed to get shuffled around as it adjusted for replies and the like.

I will still use TweetDeck, but will keep an eye on TweeTree for improvements in the future.

Thanks for your feedback Leo. I appreciate the insights. I have been impressed with TweetDeck so far. I like the search function – I always have an active search open for “church marketing”. It helps me keep my eye on conversations on Twitter related to the subject and I find it fascinating.
