How Do You Decide Who To Follow on Twitter?
A little more on Twitter today. One of the questions I get when I talk about Twitter with people is
“Who should I follow?”
That is a more complex question than you might think. I struggled too at first but I have come to this conclusion…
Follow People Who Tweet Things That Interest You
I started by following anyone who followed me. That is not always something I do now. It depends on their interests. My main interests are:
1) I want to follow people who tweet interesting things about marketing and technology. Even more, people who combine those two things with ministry.
2) I also follow people who are in ministry leadership positions (mainly pastors) who are using Twitter so I can see how these leaders use the tool. It helps me when I consult churches on how they might integrate a Twitter strategy.
3) And, of course, I follow people who are friends/family that are on Twitter.
In the end, you need to decide what role Twitter will play in your life. This can take a while because there is a learning and adoption curve like there is with any technology. The difference for Twitter is that the learning curve is not in learning the set-up and functionality – because it is a very simple architecture. The challenge is getting a handle on how to interface and inter-connect it into your daily life.
