Twitter Strategy

By David Tonen • April 17th, 2009

OK, I know…3 of my last 4 blog posts have been about Twitter.  And after this I’ll rest on the topic for a while.  This has all been prompted by the fact that for the past week Twitter has been on the pulse of mainstream media and it seems to be coming up in conversations at work, at church, and in my social circles.  People are hearing about Twitter and they want to know…what’s the deal?

Today of course Twitter was all the rage with Oprah and Ashton Kutcher.  Twitter is getting its moment in the sun. As Frederic Lardinois wrote, today was Twitter’s Big Day.  Watch an interview of Twitter’s founder Evan Williams with Oprah:

Then this evening I come across an article by John Saddington titled Twitter Strategy with Michael Hyatt.  Michael is the CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers and I have been following him on Twitter for about 8 months.  He is excellent at using Twitter and this article will give you some practical insights and best practices on using Twitter and at the same time you’ll get a glimpse into the strategy implementation by a respected leader using Twitter.

Finally, I discovered a free e-book called Twitter for Beginners that will be a helpful resource for anyone starting from scratch.

Do you have any strategies for using Twitter that you would like to share?

I have to admit that I am shocked at how much Twitter has blown up… and I have been watching it for the past couple of years.

I wish I could give some advice on using Twitter, but I am still stuck in that void of should I send personal tweets or should I send business tweets. As a result, I usually end up with silence. :)

Thanks Leo. Twitter is still an experiment on a lot of levels. I started with just a small group of followers and made my Twitter experience all personal. That transitioned into a more business/ministry focus about 6-months ago and now I tweet mainly insights and links to information that will be helpful to ministries regarding marketing and social media…with the odd personal tweet intermixed…just so people know I am human! I find this has been a better strategy and has resulted in more “conversation” and as well, more traffic to this blog!
