Kiss Your Church Web Content
Take a moment to look at your church web site (I am assuming you have one…if you don’t – contact me!). Content is king. Have you ever heard that before? Well it is. Content is king when it is valuable and functions as it should – giving essential information only.
On the Internet content is mission critical
Why? Because it is the first point of contact for people. It is your first chance to make your first impression. Are you going to engage people or frustrate them?
KISS
Keep It Simple Stupid….(KISS). You may not like that acronym but you need to hear it. All churches (all organizations) need to hear it.
If you were coming to your church web site as a visitor for the first time – ask yourself these questions…
- Is it easy to navigate and find everything?
- Is the content clear, concise, and easy to understand?
- Can you find all the basic information a visitor needs to know?
- Are your church contact details easy to locate?
- Are your church service times easy to find?
- Is there a map, directions, and bus-route details available?
These are the basics. Make sure at very least your church core content can be found – quickly and easily.
Beyond that, other content layers like your mission, vision, purpose, ministry descriptions – all the additional more detailed content should also be streamlined to their basics. People who are visitors do not need pages of paragraphs. They only need to know the basics so they can get the general picture of the culture of your church. They’ll pick up more details when they talk to you face-to-face.
Remember This
People typically have short attention spans on the web. They will not read a lot of content. Lay it out in simple bulleted format and keep to the essentials. Then you’ll make an impact with your church web site!
So what do you think? Do churches need a content makeover? How about your church’s site…how would you rate it?
