How Do You Answer The Front Door?
Your church web site is your online “front-door” to your church. For most new visitors (Christians or non-Christians) it is your first point of contact with them. They come to your door and peek inside to get a glimpse of who you are and what you have to offer them. The greeting they get at your front door and inside your “lobby” determine if they will come for a visit. They are looking for certain information and they need answers.
Critical Church Website Information
So, with that in mind, what critical information must they find so they will take the next steps?
- Why does your church exist?
- Who are you ministering to? Is it for them?
- Why would someone like them – want to come for a visit?
- What need(s) do they have that you can meet?
- What time is your church service?
- Where is it located?
- What is it like – what can they expect?
Does Your Website Have A Call to Action?
They come with questions and you should answer those right on the “front page” or give them practical links to succinct answers to those needs/questions. Wipe away the clutter, keep the navigation simple, intuitive, and up-to-date.
Then invite them in! Invite them to meet you in person. Invite them to experience your church culture in person. Invite them to begin their journey. People like to be invited…make them feel welcome and invite them to your church. That call to action is a critical and often missed next step.
What do you think? Is the church web site the front door for visitors? Are churches answering the door well? Do you have any great examples you can share?
