Church Members – Use the Back Door

Continuing on from yesterday’s post about your church web site (How Do You Answer The Front Door) I want you to think about the role a web site plays for church members.

Separate the Needs

Yesterday, I suggested that the front page of your site is the front door for visitors.  One of the big mistakes many churches make is cluttering their front page with all sorts of messages for the people that already attend.  I would suggest that you leave the front page as the connection for visitors and then create a section for events, announcements, or notices for members – a back door if you will.  An events calendar is also a good avenue to pursue as it will help people visually see when things they are interested in are coming up.

A Two Tiered Church Web Site

So, please, a good church marketing practice is to keep the front door clean and let your members use the back door to stay connected.  A church web site ultimately has two tiers.  The front level or tier for visitors and the second tier as your internal communication platform.  The more you can train your congregation to check the web site for upcoming events and internal announcements the smaller you bulletin gets and that is just great for the environment!
