Marketing With Online Video

By David Tonen • June 18th, 2009

With each passing month the way people use the Internet changes.  Broadband or high speed Internet access is now mainstream and it enables interactivity and integrated tools like video that enhance the web experience.

On Wednesday of this week Marketing Charts posted the Nielsen Online results of online video usage. Some relevant statistics:

The average online American spent nearly 189 minutes viewing Internet video in May 2009, a 49% year-over-year increase vs. May 2008″

“Google’s YouTube continues to hold the undisputed #1 position in terms of video streams in May 2009, with more than six billion videos viewed

Video Flexibility

Today video is cheap.  With a mediocre camera almost anyone can record a high enough quality video and post it on YouTube.  YouTube is free.  It allows you to post and host video for free and you can easily import the clips straight into you web site.  On top of that there are a myriad of other video services available to your organization if your video length needs to exceed 10 minutes.

Why Video Is Important for Churches and Small Business

From a marketing and communication perspective, every organization should strategically plan to integrate video into their web site.  It allows you to bring the passion of your product or service to life.  People would much rather see you and hear you first hand in a 2 minute video clip than read paragraphs of text.  This type of presentation is dynamic.

The spokesperson for any organization should speak on the organization’s behalf.  Be succinct, engaging, and share your passion.  Help people connect with you.  Make them relate to you and embrace your cause and your organization.

These are exciting times to speak to the world through video on your web site.  Embrace this opportunity and it will help your organization stand out.  People love video.  People want video.  Shoot it with excellence and you will differentiate yourself in an online world that wants and expects you to use this tool!

Do you agree?  Shouldn’t every organization speak to their target market in some way using online video?

  • Yes, I agree.

But ~3 hours is still small compared to TV consumption isn't it? But the cost factor is great.
