Pay Attention to The Signs
When you are “new” to an area, you rely heavily on signs to direct you to where you want to go. Yes, our world of travel has been taken over by GPS which does certainly help you get close to your desired location…but once you are there you still rely on signs.
All too often in churches we forget that signage is very important to our visitors. Part of helping to make the church experience more at ease for those who are visitors is to ensure that they can find their way without stress, confusion, or frustration.
Take an opportunity to drive into your church parking lot and then pretend you are a visitor. Now look for the signs that will direct you.
- is it obvious which is the main entrance?
- If you have children where do you bring them?
- where is the nursery?
- where are the washrooms?
- where is the main auditorium where the church service is being held?
- where is the welcome centre?
- is there a place for obtaining more information about programs and services?
Take this process very seriously. It can make all the difference between a good visitor experience and a bad one. If anything is not obvious…fix it!
What are your thoughts on church signage and what have been your experiences?
