Do What You’re Best At
I think in a small business or in a church each leader should always focus on and excel at what they are best at, what they are passionate about, and where their real gifting lies.
Usually, this is not in marketing. Hence I truly believe that though you need marketing desperately in both types of organizations, you are best off to pay a little money to hire someone with the expertise than to try to make a go at it on your own. The latter usually doesn’t work out well and usually ends up costing you more money than if you had hired someone in the first place. By hiring someone you get much more qualified results and you don’t waste your precious time by taking it away from the one thing that you are best at.
James Higginbotham hits this point right on today in his blog post What Is Your One Thing? In it James says:
“Whatever your one thing is, how are you complementing your leadership in the other things? We can’t all do everything – we need others to fill in the gaps.”
So, read his entire post and give that some serious consideration – leave a comment for him as well to encourage him. I know you will benefit from his wisdom. Fill your marketing gaps by making sure it is done with excellence.
