Connect 4
Identify Your Mission
The problem with most church marketing is that often churches have forgotten their mission. Every church leader knows what each Christian and “the church” was commissioned to do by Jesus. He said:
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19)
Identify Your Target
So, who has your church been called to “connect” with? You might say “everybody”. Yes, ideally everyone. However, your church has a culture. Your church has certain demographics. Your church is in a certain neighbourhood. Your church in all likelihood is made up of a certain socioeconomic segment. You need to identify “who” you really are. Now use the “who” to reach the ones you can most effectively connect with.
Let’s be honest. You and those “like” you will most naturally connect with people in your sphere of influence – in your network. People like you whom you work with, live beside, and socialize with. Now go and connect with them!
Identify Your Strategy
Now, look at what you are called to do, who you are called to connect with, and create a strategy to effectively connect with them. Use your resources, your talents, your points of connection, and leverage those. Connect with people socially, relationally, through music, media, culture, events, and like-interests.
Identify Your Implementation
Great church marketing is relational. It is all about connecting – but you can’t do that if you forget your mission, don’t identify your target, and don’t have a strategy. Now wrap these three together and go. Put it in action!
