I realize that not everyone has an iPhone (though I think they should). A new service launched this week for the iPhone (internationally) called Viber. It is a free downloadable app that allows iPhone users to call other iPhone users (anywhere in the world) for free. It works

Viber lets you make free phone calls to other Viber users

It’s just like Skype, but with no need to add contacts or ask for ID’s

With Viber, everyone’s phone number is their ID

So, when you setup the app, it asks for your cell number and then sends you an activation access code by SMS Text Message. You enter the code and presto – it is installed. It asks to access your address book just so that it can pair up (on your phone) the people in your contacts list that also have Viber. Then you can call them or they can call you (via VOIP – Internet phone) at any time. The other advantage is that anyone who has your number and has an iPhone can call you – so you could use it for business tool free. Again, the current restriction is that it is iPhone to iPhone but apparently, they are working on an Android version.

Here is their promo video below. If you have an iPhone, call me and we’ll test it out – my cell – 902.878.0030!

It was one-year ago today that I got my iPhone 3GS – my first iPhone.

I have had a cell phone for what seem like forever but the iPhone has changed the way I use a cell. It is so much more than a phone. When meeting with clients I will often not even boot up my laptop – I can do almost everything I need to on my iPhone. In fact I seldom use it as a phone…e-mail, texts, web, and all the apps – it has become an indispensable tool in my daily life.

I honour of my one-year anniversary, I leave you with this fun little video from Julian Smith:

The two most recent Apple Computer TV Ads are driving to the root of the problem for those who have hesitated to make the switch from a PC to a Mac. The ads titled “Off the Air” and “Throne” address one of the pain points consumers have with switching to a Mac – the file transfer of all their folders and files off of their old PC and onto the new Mac OS X operating system on their new Mac. Now, an “Apple Genius” technician at an Apple retail store will transfer your files from your PC to your newly purchased Mac for free. Brilliant!

We as small business owners can learn a lesson from Apple. Look for the pain point(s) your potential customer has. Define the barriers. Look for ways that you can tear down some of these walls that separate or hold your customer back from taking that leap to your product or service. Sometimes, good marketing is simply good customer service. Relate to your customer. Figure out what their hesitations are and address them…maybe even surprise them by making an offer that shows you are willing to go the extra mile to earn their business. The easier you make it for your customers to take that step, the more willing they will be. Customer service is far more important than many of the larger companies in your line of business may realize. Sometimes you can not out-market your competition but you can out-service them! Never under estimate the value of great, creative, value-driven customer service.

Here’s a simple but useful tip for any Mac users out there.

I am still growing into my new Mac, but a friend suggested I download “Monolingual”. This is a program that strips out all the multi-language components of all your software. Chances are that you operate 99% of your programs in English. Each program is designed however with the capacity to function in every language under the sun. Monolingual removes the unecessary langages to free up significant hard-drive space. Both my friend and I recovered over 2 Gigs of space by running this simple and free program. I give it an A+. You can find it online here:
